I did a quick head count, we have 10 Pulmonologist/Intensivist physicians working in our department. I’d like to introduce you to each, and since this is anonymous I get to be honest. (Muahahahaha).
Dr. Ego: I think that’s probably the top issue I have with this physician. Don’t get me wrong, they are smart, BIG smart. In a code situation you want this person at your bedside. But this physician also has a BIG EGO problem. When I had first started, I was warned “Do not give your opinions, do not give suggestions, only tell the problem and ask for the solution.” Dr. Ego doesn’t like nurses with opinions, especially nurses who are women with opinions. Dr. Ego is the type of doctor who only wants more information when you only give the needed details, and then when you give more it’s too much. Dr. Ego always makes me nervous and I’m always happy when they aren’t on my shift. 7/10 stars.
Dr. Fashion: If you know a physician who was born with a silver spoon in their mouth, then you already know this person. Dr. Fashion likes to come to codes with heels on. Click….Clack…Click down the hallway. Dr. Fashion always has an attitude and never wants to listen to what you have to say during rounds. Dr. Fashion is probably the worst person in a code situation. 2/10 Stars.
Dr. Nice: This physician is also very smart, and kind. 9/10 stars. No complaints or bad interactions.
Dr. Head Honcho: Our lead pulmonologist. Very smart, loves to teach, especially new grads. 10/10 Stars.
Dr. Quiet: The kind you cannot hear because they talk so quietly. Very kind and smart. Always listens to what the nurses have to say. 8/10 stars.
Dr. There: I named them Dr. There because that’s all they are is there. Warm body to fill the role. Lacks much personality. Doesn’t like night shift. 5/10 stars.
Dr. M: Loves to teach, always takes the time to answer questions. some say they are nice and some say they’ve been rude, but I’ve never had an issue. I think they are very smart and does very good in a code. 9/10 stars.
Dr. Donttrust: This doctor doesn’t know which of their patients are intubated or not, orders wrong meds. Nice. 3/10 stars.
Dr. Best: My absolute favorite doc. Funny, kind to nurses, respects and listens to nurses’ opinions. Always in a good mood. Best at codes. 20/10 stars.
Dr. Sweet: Very kind and quiet doc. Smart AF. Hard to get to know. 8/10 stars.
We also have PA’s which is amazing because then we don’t have to page and wake up the docs at night.
